Explanation

Ginga Tetsudō 999 ~Jikū o Koeta Energy no Tabi~” (Galaxy Express 999 ~Journey of Energy Across Space and Time~) is an original net animation (ONA) series published on Kyushu Electric Power's website. It was produced as a spin-off of “Galaxy Express 999,” the masterpiece of Leiji Matsumoto, who is from Fukuoka Prefecture in Kyushu. It features original stories themed around energy and environmental issues. The 5 episodes of this anime series were released every two weeks between July 30 and September 24, 2010. Each episode is approximately 4 minutes long, with production costs estimated at tens of millions of yen. The series gained popularity, exceeding 100,000 total views within about two and a half months of its release. Season 2 was subsequently released. The episodes are no longer available online.

The Kyushu Electric Power's Public Relations Department stated, “We hope this becomes an opportunity for people to think about the importance of energy resources while enjoying themselves.”

Leiji Matsumoto, participated in the production, with Tomoharu Katsumata as director and Miyuki Kure as scriptwriter. It was produced by Toei Animation, and the voice actors were mostly the same as those from the original work.
