“Ginga Tetsudō Monogatari ~Wasurerareta Toki no Wakusei~ Gekijōban” (The Galaxy Railways ~A Letter from the Abandoned Planet~ the Movie) is an edited and sound-corrected version of the four OVA series of the same name. It was shown as a late-night screening in Tokyo and Osaka on March 24, 2007. The Blu-ray version of this movie was released on May 28, 2014.

The Galaxy Express 999 is about to depart from Duet Station, the satellite of Planet Herase, to continue its journey, when it is suddenly bathed in a mysterious light and crashes onto the ground of the planet itself, which had been erased from the Galaxy Railways route map. Receiving a distress signal from the 999, the Sirius platoon of the Space Defense Force (SDF) of the Galaxy Railways Control Office heads for rescue. Having landed on the planet, the platoon's members, Manabu Yūki and Kirian Black, find and rescue the 999's passenger, Tetsurō Hoshino, but the whereabouts of Maetel and the controller, who were also aboard the 999, are unknown. What happened to them? What fate connects Planet Herase to the 999…?
