“Ginga Tetsudō Monogatari ~Wasurerareta Toki no Wakusei~” (The Galaxy Railways ~A Letter from the Abandoned Planet~) is an OVA series that takes place between the first TV series “Ginga Tetsudō Monogatari” (The Galaxy Railways) and the second TV series “Ginga Tetsudô Monogatari ~Eien e no Bunkiten~”.

The production of this work was announced in 2006, with its initial working title, “Ginga Tetsudō Monogatari 2” (The Galaxy Railways 2). It was broadcast via pay-per-view television from December 30, 2006 to January 5, 2007, and subsequently released on DVD across four volumes from January 24, 2007 to April 25, 2007.

With a strong connection to the world of “Ginga Tetsudô 999” (Galaxy Express 999), this OVA series features special appearances by the franchise's iconic characters including Tetsurō Hoshino, Maetel, and the controller. Through these appearances, the narrative connection between the two works is strengthened.

One year after the fierce battle with the Alfort Star Empire, a new threat is upon the Galaxy Railways. Strange signs emerged: recurring illusions along the railway lines, a distress signal from a planet on which none ever stops, and an unmarked letter. These peculiar omens seem to hint at a new enigma.

The action takes place on the Planet Herase, known as the “Forgotten Planet of Time”. The Galaxy Express 999, en route to the Eternal Galaxy, sends a distress signal after departing from the satellite station of Duet, apparently involved in an accident. The status of the passengers and details about the planet remain completely unknown.

The SDF Sirius platoon, having received an emergency deployment order, sets out to rescue the passengers of the 999. At the scene, a man driven mad by hatred tries to restore a twisted history.

The SDF, determined to prevent any further disruption of spacetime, confronts the mystery. Can they unravel this enigmatic incident and return safely?
