Explanation

When Leiji Matsumoto's “Ginga Tetsudô 999” (Galaxy Express 999) aired on Fuji TV in the fall of 1978, it sparked a frenzy across generations. This epic tale of a journey set in space has touched the hearts of people of all ages. A quarter century later, the Galaxy Express has been revived as a completely new work. Its name is “Ginga Tetsudô Monogatari” (The Galaxy Railways).

The work by Leiji Matsumoto, which marks the 50th anniversary of his career as a manga artist, has finally come to fruition, in this space odyssey that depicts the immeasurable scale of the “infinite universe” and the “mystery that lies there.”

Story

The story begins on a planet that is said to be the center of the universe. Destiny, the starting point for all Galaxy Railways. Following the wishes of his father and brother, Manabu Yūki, joined the Space Defense Force (SDF). Together with his father's subordinate, Captain Bulge, the cool and collected Bruce, the always cheerful David, his fellow recruit Louis, and the medical officer Yuki Sexaroid, the members of Sirius platoon, Manabu overcomes many incidents that threaten the Galaxy Railways. He grows into a full-fledged SDF member. Layla Destiny Shura, a mysterious beauty, oversees the SDF. How does Manabu's fate look in her eyes, which have the power to see into the fate of people and planets?

As he learns to change his “destiny” himself, and grab his “tomorrow's happiness” with his own power, the Galaxy Railways are facing their greatest crisis…
